Do You Know How Much Sugar You Are Consuming?

It recently occurred to me that some of the healthy things I have been eating and drinking, are actually a lot higher in sugar than I assumed. As you may know I have been on a complete healthy diet (no more sweets, chocolate and fizzy drinks)

I try to drink 2 litres of water a day, and have some juice when I have exceeded my water limit.

I recently bought a mango Rubicon, as I really enjoy them and was shocked to see that it actually contained 42% of your daily sugar intake!

With all the fruit I had already had that morning and what I had for lunch and breakfast; I realised I was over my daily sugar intake, and I hadn’t even had dinner yet!

This is a good example to check how much sugar is in something before you have it, as I didn’t think it would contain that much sugar at all.

I understand if your about to drive for over 3 hours and have no way around it, so you have an energy drink or a coffee. That is completely understandable, as you do need that short term energy and it could be dangerous if you go without it. But if you exceed your daily sugar intake every day it’s not good for you, and your body will become reliant upon having this amount of sugar. It is also not good for the long term, as although it may give you a short boost, in the long run it will make you feel more and more tired and zap away at your energy. But exceeding your daily limits is so easy, as most people don’t check the content in what they are consuming.

So what I would say is, if you are worried about exceeding your daily limits then check the content of what you are consuming and plan your meals properly.

My Super Healthy Lunch

Good afternoon all!

I am pleased to say I am sticking to my promise and am eating extremely healthy still!

Yes I know.. (Well done me!)

I have found that now I have cut out all the junk and sugar, I no longer crave it, and can enjoy a cheeky slice of cake or a glass of Malibu and coke occasionally without feeling too guilty about it!

So far today I have had:

A banana

A potato and egg salad with a dash of salad cream

A medium bowl of raspberries

2 litres of water

And for dinner I plan on having a chicken and vegetable stir fry.

I can tell this change of diet is having a good effect on me, because I now get excited about having these foods, and it has many benefits.

When I was eating 5 chocolate bars a day and a few cans of fizzy drink, with no water and no fruit or veg, I just did it without realising the effects it had on my body and my mind.

Now I genuinely feel more refreshed and active. Also I have found my depression has lifted quite a lot!

I am proud to know I am making a big change in my life!

Find A Skin Care Treatment That Works For You

Morning all!

This is not a promotional post, I am just going to share my opinion on popular skin care products.

I count myself as a really unlucky person when it comes to my skin. Although I eat healthily and drink plenty of water, and stay away from alcohol and sugary goods, my skin is absolutely awful. I have always suffered with acne since the age of 12, and I have tried numerous medication and creams to get rid of it, with no change whatsoever.

Recently I visited a local beauty salon and had a microdermbrasial facial, specifically for acne prone skin, and it flattened my blemishes and spots, but this was only temporary. My skin was raw red afterwards and after a couple of days my skin was uneven and spotty again.

The beauty therapist who performed the treatment, recommended ‘Skin Accumax’ to me, and after seeing many before and after photos, I bought them straight away.

I was told to take 4 tablets a day until I see noticeable results, and I can then reduce the amount of tablets I take. In the shop it was £40 for 60 tablets, and by taking 4 a day, they obviously didn’t last long.

After a week, I had already noticed results and found no new blemishes were appearing.

Along with my healthy eating diet, my skin did seem to be improving, so when my tablets run out I shopped around online for the same product but for a hopefully cheaper price.

To my luck I found a seller on eBay who sold these tablets for a much cheaper price of £46 for 120 tablets.

Of course I bought them and am still taking them today.

If you suffer with acne, I would recommend trying this product, as it is starting to work for me and I can definitely see an improvement!

I have tried other products such as Witch, Garnier and Clearasil, but the only thing that helps me instantly is Tea Tree Oil.

Thank god for Superdrug who seem to always have a 3 for 2 offer on Tea Tree Oil products!

I use their exfoliator, their blended oil, and their nose strips, and I must say, they are amazing!

They reduce the redness almost immediately and treat my spots wonderfully!

If bad skin is something that really gets you down, I would recommend trying out a variety of different products, because not everyone’s skin is the same and everyone will react differently. Find what works for you and even if there is a slight change, keep with it and hopefully you will see effects sooner rather than later!

My Healthy Foods Of The Day

My healthy eating is really going well! I am surprised how easy it is for me to stick to it! I thought I would really struggle and be craving chocolate and sugar all the time. But I have managed to substitute a can of coke and a bar of chocolate for a sugar free carton of fruit juice or water and a piece of fruit.
I have been making the effort to make myself lunch every day instead of grabbing something unhealthy from the local shop.

Here is what I had yesterday.

As you can see I had a chocolate flavoured Weetabix drink for breakfast which is packed full of protein, energy and fibre! And oh my goodness it tastes amazing! Literally amazing! Along with a Tescos’s healthy living strawberry and apple cereal bar.

This filled me up for a couple hours, until I had my late morning snack which was a banana.
For lunch I made myself a grilled chicken salad, which was delicious!
I had drunk nearly a litre of water by lunch time.
In the afternoon I had a packet or orange drops (which are one of your five a day!)
When I got in I had some cranberry and raspberry juice, chicken stir fry for dinner, and snacked on grapes in the evening.
It really does feel amazing to know that your eating healthily!
Not only had it given me energy and improved my skin, but I feel like a better person. I feel happier and now look forward to my meals knowing that they are balanced and full of goodness!

An Update On My Healthy Eating Promise

I just wanted to share my progress with you all regarding my healthy eating plan.
I made a promise to myself that I would drink a litre of water a day, have my five a day, and actually have breakfast, lunch and dinner, instead of just snacking throughout the day without having proper meals.

So did I stick to my promise..
*Drum roll please*

YES! I have been good!
I wasn’t sure if I could actually stick to it or not, but I have been strict on myself and my diet has improved so many things!

I never have time for breakfast, so I now bring a banana into work and eat that when I get in, along with either a Special K chocolate and raspberry cereal bar, or an Alpen coconut cereal bar, and an innocent smoothie. Mmm! This normally keeps me going until lunch time, which then I will either have a chicken salad sandwich, pasta or soup.
If I feel peckish between lunch and dinner, I will have a small pot of either grapes or raspberries.
For dinner I have been having chicken casseroles, mixed veg pasta bakes, vegetable stir fry, or something other than pizza and chips!
I don’t usually have pudding, but if I am still hungry after dinner (which is rare) I will have some jelly or another piece of fruit.

I can’t say it’s been easy! I do miss my chocolate but I can safely say that my skin has improved and has cleared up tremendously!
I do a big Tesco’s shop every month, and normally I will buy all the £1 chocolate bargains, such as big bars of galaxy (that were gone the same night) and multi packs of sweets.
Now if get a craving for chocolate or something sugary I will have a piece of fruit (I know they still contain sugar but it counts towards my five a day and has to be better than junk!)

I also read somewhere that raspberries can help to relieve symptoms of depression, so I have been stocking up! And along with many other lifestyle changes I have made, surprisingly I do feel better in myself and feel a bit happier than before.

I have finally listened to doctors and friends, and have started to take care of myself. Improving my diet has given me my energy back, helped my skin improve, and made me feel better all round!

How To Relieve Heartburn

I get really irritated by unnecessary pains. For example if I have a headache or a stomachache and there is no reason for it, and it has just come on randomly, I actually get angry for having the pointless pain. You wonder why you are suffering and it ruins your day. Last night I was suffering with severe heartburn. I tried to sleep it off so I couldn’t feel the pain anymore but when it hurts that much, it is impossible to get to sleep.

I frantically searched the web for quick cures and to my surprise there are several that actually worked for me. Not everyone’s bodies will react in the same way, but next time you are suffering with heartburn try these tips and see if they will work for you like they did with me:

1. Antacids don’t always work for me. But start off by taking one or two, such as Rennie. As these are the most common cure.

2. Take a spoonful of baking soda and mix it with a glass of water and drink. This helps neutralise stomach acid. This has worked most effectively with me.

3. Sit upright. This keeps the acid in the stomach and when laying down it will make the heartburn worse.

4. Drink a glass of milk. This will wash the acid down, and you will feel a cooling sensation, helping to ease the pain.

5. Eat a banana. This will raise the PH for stomach content and lower acidity levels.

6. Chewing a price of sugar free gum helps get rid of the acid build up.

I know these tips won’t help everyone, but give them a try next time you are suffering with heartburn and see what works for you.

Just That Little Bit Of Excercise

What is it they say?
That you are meant to do at least 10 minutes of Excercise everyday..
Every website I go to says something different..
If I’m honest I used to be a fitness freak.. I used to go on a 4 hour walk with my friend a couple of times a week.
I used to go the gym every other day.
And I used to work out in my mums garage, 20 minutes on the treadmill, 15 on the punch bag, and 30 on the excercise bike..
Since I moved out I have become sooo lazy!
Especially as I’m driving now, I barely walk anywhere.
I started going to a boxing club again with my dad but have left now due to not always having the time to go.

I now feel I should start making more of an effort to work out, and have started doing some ab crunches to tone my stomach.
I am a size 6 so everyone always says that I’m silly.
But keeping fit is not only good for your body but also for your mind..
I feel it gives you a positive view on yourself and your body..
Don’t get me wrong it can be extremely hard to motivate yourself..
Especially now it’s winter, you just want to snuggle up on the sofa when you get home from work.
But I think it is important to take care of yourself, and keep fit, so you are able to do things that you couldn’t before; such as moving furniture a bit easier if you have to, or silly things that require you to be in good shape.

I have started doing 20-30 ab crunches a day.
(It’s only been 3 days, so the progress is not showing yet)
But I feel good after it, and I look forward to just relaxing more than I used to; and can just sit down and put my feet up without feeling lazy, or that I could be exercising or doing something better.

Yes I know it’s only been 3 days, but I can feel the benefits already..

I have also downloaded a 7 minute fitness app, which you can get from the AppStore – ‘Fit In 7 Min’
Which gives you several different exercises, all 30 seconds each. And a video plays on your screen which shows how you do each excercise. It also has a couple of seconds rest in-between each excercise.
You can track your progress with this app, and choose a workout routine.
You can also follow people on there to see their progress, and share photos..
I think sharing photos is good, as you can see other peoples progress and it motivates you..

Well okay, I haven’t actually started it yet, but I will, I promise!

The Effects Foods Can Have/Eating Right

IMG_6650-0.JPG

For those of you who are up to date with all my posts, you will know that I have shared the troubles I have had with food.
I was a vegetarian for 9 years, and lost an awful lot of weight, and because of this I got more and more obsessed with the way I looked and lost even more weight, to the point I was diagnosed with anorexia and anemia.
I wouldn’t listen to anybody because I felt big and was uncomfortable with my body.
After some help, I slowly started gaining the weight I needed, and was back to a uk size 6, which I still am now; yes it is still small, but I look a healthy weight and am so much better than I was.
Even though I got back to more of a normal size, I still always felt run down, fed up, sick, dizzy and constantly tired.
I used to live off of energy drinks and sugary foods, just to keep me going and make me just about get through the day.
I didn’t realise the importance of your diet and how it affects your moods, and your energy. I know it’s silly because I guess it’s common knowledge but I was completely oblivious.

Well.. Now I am trying to take better care of myself.
I am forcing myself to eat something in the morning even though it makes me feel sick. I am eating a banana, yoghurt or nutri grain bar, because that just about keeps me going until lunch time, which then I’ll have either a chicken or ham salad sandwich, soup or pasta.
I am trying to drink at least a litre of water every day, which isn’t as hard as I thought it would be.
I’m quite strict on myself and won’t have a can of drink or anything other than water until I have drank at least a litre!
For dinner it always changes, but I do try to eat properly.
I can’t say I always have my five a day, but I certainly feel a lot better now I’m having 3 meals a day, and I have nearly got all of my energy back!

I thought I would share this experience, as I know there are so many people out there who also struggle with food, and maybe don’t realise the effect of not eating properly has on you.

Please look after yourselves, and eat right. I couldn’t imagine going back to the way I was..
If I didn’t change my way when I did, then I would either be back in hospital, or severely ill and too late to do anything about it..

That’s Bananas!

IMG_6991-0.PNG

I was recently advised by a colleague of mine to start eating bananas.
I’ll explain..
I have suffered with depression for a long while, always feel tired and in need of an energy boost, and I have tried everything I can to try and snap out if it.

Bananas have many benefits, such as they are very high in potassium, contain almost no fat, are very low on calories and are also high in vitamin B6 and fibre.
Apparently, according to the FDA eating bananas can decrease the risk of getting cancer, and lower the risk of heart attacks and strokes.

Eating bananas are meant to be a good way of relieving depression, this is by the amino acid – tryptophan that it contains, plus vitamin B6, which together helps the body to produce serotonin; the natural chemical which relieves mental depression.

It has only been the past week I have started eating a banana or two a day, so it’s early days for me to review the difference yet, but I am hoping they make a slight change!
